5-gallon lid kit

Cut a hinged sub-lid into the stock hard-to-open lip lid—opening as large as the lid permits. Accommodate molded handles opposite the hinge. One lid language for kitchen collection and rack / process—no hatch in the barrel wall. Full steps: build guide.

Why this kit

Full-circumference lip lids seal well and open badly. Keep the lip locked on the pail; open a cut panel instead. Pair with an intact shell for collection, or with the rack bucket shell for modular and municipal banks.

  1. Seat the stock lid on an empty matched pail; note molded handles; mark the largest panel with ≥25 mm land (handle opposite hinge).
  2. Cut the sub-lid; deburr.
  3. Hinge on the rack bottom-of-face edge; confirm gravity-open when tilted.
  4. Use molded pull if present; else optional string or light latch.
